Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how Britain's Next Superstar collects, uses and protects your personal information in connection with the Contributor Release Form. It should be read alongside the Contributor Release itself.

Data Controller

The legal company acting as data controller for Britain's Next Superstar is the production company responsible for the Programme. Its registered address and privacy contact details are available on request from the production team or by emailing privacy@britainsnextsuperstar.com.

What Data We Collect

We collect: your full legal name, stage name, date of birth, age, email address, mobile telephone number, home address, emergency contact details, talent category, audition city and date, contestant number, social media handles, parent/guardian details (if under 18), your electronic signature, and the device/browser information and IP address used to submit the form. We also record your signed Contributor Release PDF and the timestamp of your submission.

Why We Collect It

Your data is processed for: audition administration, contributor management, safeguarding (particularly for minors), legal compliance, broadcasting, distribution, programme production, and record keeping. This is necessary for the performance of the Contributor Release you have signed and for our legitimate interests in producing and broadcasting the Programme.

Lawful Basis

We rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR: (a) performance of a contract / steps prior to a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) — processing your release form and audition details; (b) legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) — safeguarding and child performance licensing requirements; (c) legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — programme production, broadcasting and promotion; (d) consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — for any optional marketing communications, which you can withdraw at any time.

Recipients and International Transfers

Your data may be shared with: Channel ONE TV and associated authorised broadcasters and platforms; production crew and contractors involved in the Programme; sponsors and licensees where relevant; legal and compliance advisors; and data processors providing hosting, email and storage services. Programme recordings may be distributed internationally, including in countries whose data-protection laws differ from those of the United Kingdom. Where international transfers occur, appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses will be used.

Retention Periods

Signed Contributor Release forms and associated production records are retained for the duration of the Programme and for a minimum of seven (7) years thereafter, in line with broadcasting industry standards and legal requirements. Personal data not required for ongoing production or legal compliance will be deleted or anonymised when no longer needed.

Your Rights

You have the right to: access your personal data; rectify inaccurate data; object to certain processing; restrict processing; request erasure (subject to legal retention requirements); and lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). To exercise these rights, contact the production team or email privacy@britainsnextsuperstar.com.

Contacting the ICO

If you have a concern about how your personal data is processed, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office at: www.ico.org.uk or call 0303 123 1113. The ICO is the UK's independent authority on data protection.

Participation consent (signing the Contributor Release) is separate from optional marketing consent. You are not required to consent to marketing to participate in the Programme. If you provided optional marketing consent, you can withdraw it at any time by contacting the production team.
